Philippa The site is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk They do charge, but they have a search facility, so unlike the 1837online site, you can type in an ancestor's name and an idea of dates, and it will search for you. Therefore it is a lot more cost effective, and like I say, if you can print from your computer you don't have to buy certificates. I just wish I had more relatives from north of the border!! They have the census records for 1881, 1891 and 1901 too.
