If you are in touch with your uncle Harold get as much info from him as you can. Does he have his birth cert or the marriage cert of his parents? If not, you could get them and then from the marriage cert see the names of their fathers - if that takes you back before 1901 you could start searching the census records and go backwards through death,marriage and birth certs. Hello, I have just begun to build my family tree. All I know is that my grandfather Thomas Smith, originally came from Northumberland and my Grandmother Mary Turner came from Stoke-on-Trent, where they lived. My father, Thomas Joseph Smith, deceased, was born in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent and has only one brother living Harold Smith, living in Stoke-on-Trent. I would dearly love to find more information.
