FTM 2008 is going to be on general release within a couple of weeks. We have been Beta Testing it for some time. If you have not used the program before and you intend to buy FTM I would reccomend waiting for the 2008 version to be released. 2008 is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to any other version of FTM. You would not want to start using an older version, get used to that and then start on the 2008 version. The whole program has been completely rewritten from scratch, it looks and feels like a new program (which it is) there are lots of new features and there are a couple of the old features that are not included yet, I believe they will be released as free updates. I've got to be honest and state that I personally prefer the older versions but that's probably because I've been using it since version 5 (9 years) and 2008 is a whole new program, and therefore a bit of a learning curve. Hi, You can download the beta version from http://beta.familytreemaker(.)com/ (Remove Brackets) I like the look of it but it won't import my main FTM 2006 file - errors with 'unkown error' (Searching the internet reveals that I am not the only person receiving this error). It works with smaller FTM files and gedcoms. My PC is above the recommended spec for FTM 2008 plus over 7 Gig free space on my hard drive. It is a BETA version so hopefully this will be sorted out when the final version is released. I hope so anyway as I had already pre-ordered the UK edition £19.90 from http://www.twrcomputing(.)co.uk/ .... release due late August/early September 2007. If you're thinking of purchasing FTM 2008 it's worth trying the beta version out (it's time limited). You can feedback any problems to the development team. There are plenty of reviews out there if you google for them. Steven
