Can anybody cast a glance over the 1891 and 1901 Census for Edwin Joseph Gray born 1844 Oxford. I'm not sure of his profession on both returns. Thanks

On the 1891, he is with his wife Kate Louisa at 28 Holden Street Battersea and the 1901 at Shaw Hall/Lodge, Hardwick Road, Whitchurch, Oxford, still with Kate and children. I think the 1891 is a proprietor of something and the 1901, a tennis marker?

The 1891 I posted looks like the right family Occupation reads something like Proffesor of Lennis or Tennis

OK, you were only 20 years out on your year of birth! In 1901 he's a tennis marker. Margaret

I'd say Proffesor of Tennis and Tennis Marker - although I have no idea what that would mean - maybe an umpire?? Kath. x
