On the 1881 census my grx5 grandfather is listed as birth place Dublin Barracks, Ireland. Is it possible that there are any military records that will list this birth? Are there any Irish registers that record this birth (heard many stories of Irish records being destroyed??) Kind Regards Martin

Have typed Dublin Barracks into search engine and found lots of details about Collins Barracks, Dublin. which is now a Museum but no way of finding how to learn of any births there. Have searched through census records and Gr x5 Grandfather lists his birth as Dublin, except 1881 he gives Dublin Barracks and 1891 he gives Wellington, Shrops, which is where his wife gives on all censuses. given this i have found a Richard Cotton born 1815 on IGI born Wellington Shrops. could this be my Gr x5 Grandfather, if so why would he give Dublin as birthplace on many censuses?? Was his father in the Army? Have you got his marriage certificate which will give his fathers occupation? If so,and his fathers regiment is given (essential, if he left the Army before 1883), his fathers military records could possibly be found, showing where he was at the time of his sons birth.
