I'll take your advice Gwyn and follow up on one name study. I did read on the site that he was obligated to respond to me so I'll give it another go. My mother's brother, Ada's eldest son has looked into placing an ad in the newspaper in Liverpool. There's a column where you can look for lost friends or rellies but because he's flying over here in a few weeks, he thought it would be best to place the ad once he gets back to England. Pointless putting it in now and then leaving for 6 weeks. Deb:)

That's not on....As a member of the Guild he has an obligation to reply to you. One of the pages on the G.O.O.N.S.site tells you how to chase him. Have you tried a letter to the local paper where the children were born, asking if people knew the family?....A long shot, I know. Gwyn

Hi Gwyn, Yes, I did contact Hyland one name and after e-mailing the gent twice with requests and getting no response from him, I gave up. I wonder if Jo san could be right. I've thought about emigration too. Does anyone know how to find out where these records might be held? Deb:)

Hello Deb Have you tried contacting the person doing a One Name Study of the surname HYLAND in the hope that he may know of the family. Details of contact on this link..... http://www.one-name.org/cgibin/search.cgi?find=1224 Gwyn

Have you thought that she may have emigrated? I too have members of my family missing and have come to the conclusion that they must have emigrated as their is no trace of them marrying or dying here.

Yes, I did find her after tracing and contacting the family of another Ada Hyland. Ironically, this wrong family helped me to contact the right family and in just over 3 weeks, they're flying out here to Aus to meet us all. It's just too wonderful for words. I only wish I could find the missing ones, Ada, Sheila and Adam. I was able to find Ada's eldest son and he and my mum can't wait to meet each other. Deb:)

Just because she didn't divorce Charles doesn't mean she didn't live with someone else and take his name. A lot of marriages broke down in the war years and because divorce was still relatively expensive, some people just married again bigamously or lived with someone else as man and wife. We think my husbands parents must have done that as we can find no record of a marriage for them and when his first wife remarried 8 years after hubby's father died (after living with the person she married for 30 years), she called herself a widow and not divorced. I'm trying to find my grandmother Ada Hyland nee Sharpe. The last known record of her was when she had her last child in 1944 in Liverpool S. She married Charles Hyland in 1938 and had a son Charles in the same year. My mother Christine was born in 1940, followed by Sheila in 1943 and Adam in 1944. I know that she never divorced Charles so it's not likely that she remarried. I've searched marriages extensively anyway and I've trawled deaths from 1944 through to 2005. It's possible that she died after 2005 but I have no way of knowing. I've checked electerol rolls and she's not listed. I've also tried tracing her two youngest children but they too appear to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I wrote to all the Sheila and Adam's on electerol rolls but no replies. Her two eldest children have no idea what happened to their mother as they weren't raised by her. I also traced one of her siblings family and wrote to all names that came up on electerol rolls but again got no reply. I've posted on trying to find with no replies and have searched family trees on GR and Ancestry with no luck. I don't know what else to do and am desperate for some suggestions. Deb:)
