Perhaps you would have more success if you asked for a bmd lookup in your title. Specifying the 1960's may put people off Good luck Reg

Hi Jane. Just a helpful hint if your looking for people who came to Australia, and you are trying to locate possible BDM records. Australia ( being a large Country )is divided by States and Territories. Each State/Territory holds its own BDM's Archives. Australia death records/index's normally show parents names of the deceased ( if known )so if you listed his parents name in your request it possibly would help someone here in Australia locate him. Place of birth is normally only shown on the actual Death certificate. N.A.A ( National Archives of Australia ) shows two possibles within your time frame.( Incoming )which can be found here. http://www.naa.gov.au/The_Collection/recordsearch.html YATES David John Ronald born 23 July 1942; Margaret (nee Henshaw) born 20 June 1941; Mandy Elizebeth born 20 February 1964; Allan Ronald born 15 August 1967; travelled per aircraft departing UK on 14 September 1968 under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme. YATES Vincent Ronald born 24 July 1931; Joan Mavis (nee Simpson) born 3 July 1934; Ronald Denis born 12 June 1953; Susan born 22 June 1955; travelled per aircraft departing UK on July 1963 under the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme. In the State of Victoria ( alone ) not counting other States ( between 1921 and 1985 ).....there is one Death record showing up for a Ronald Yates in 1975 aged 61.....Father: Frederick....Mother Helda SELLARS. There is also a Death registered for the State of N.S.W for a Ronald Yates.( 1973 ) http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ 5580/1973 YATES RONALD Father: UNKNOWN Mother:UNKNOWN Location :SYDNEY Australia is likely to have many Ronald Yates. > born in Yorkshire in September 2 1930 Unfortunately unless he died relatively young, you are unlikely to get any joy out of Australian BMD records, as the the public index information cuts off in the late 1970s to early 1980s (depending on the state concerned). If he has died and was in NSW at the time of death, you *might* find him in the Ryerson index of newspaper death notices..... http://www.rootsweb(dot)com/~nswsdps/ Cheers, Bill Sydney, Australia

Thanks Tonyoz Possibly Ronald Yates 1975 he was in the army earlier and I think he went to Crimean War and he suffered shell shock so chamces of him dieing young are possible will check out that sitr you listed, I have his parents details but if he did not list them then I would be looking for a needle in a haystack as his mum died in 1962? and his father about 1965? Would I find out from a death cert if he re married ect, Thanks Janie

TonyOz So many thanks for posting the link for the Australian National Archives. I have now located some information I have been looking for, which gives me a definite point on one of my family mysteries. However, it's all very well being able to find out when people arrived in Oz, but I know they left within about 18 months. How do I find that out? Cheers Sheila

Hi Jane. Australian Death certificates under normal circumstances, are very informative. On Australian Death cert. there is a section for 'If deceased was married' Where, and what age and to whom. Also, how long he/she has been living in Australia if born O/seas. So if he was married at time of death, then it should be listed, and any children belonging to him listed also (Alive and Deceased if known )in most cases. This information is pending on what and how much the Informant knew about the deceased when filling out the death cert. Cheers. Tony..:>))
