Jay If you google in 'Black Sheep Index', it may give you a lead - it deals with all sorts of unlawful hiccups, large and small. Happy hunting Alice

Hi, What sites if any or other resources can I use to find out if a member of my family committed some crime or emigrated or suggest some other possible reason why my gg grandfather disappeared between 1856 and 1861. I`ve never found a death certificate for him and my gg grandmother was not a ` widow` on any census until 1891 though I realise that she just might not have actually known. His family also changed their surname some time later for some reason, split up and moved. Members of the family today that I`ve found each say that they always had the impression that there were things that were not to be talked about and were off limits but none of us can actually pinpoint what or why. Jay.
