Janice, you're a star! I'll send off for the certificate and hopefully it will solve the mystery of her name/birth and also give me some details to go on for George. I get to the stage where I can't see for looking - many thanks again. Alice

Just because the birthplace is given as Antrobus on the 1901 census, I wouldn't take it for granted that it is correct. People often change where they give as birthplace, sometimes giving a bigger town near to the birthplace, and sometimes just giving where they think they were born. If they moved around a lot when they were small it's easy to imagine that they were born in a place where they were brought up, even if they weren't actually born there. Kath. x

Here's Frank's birth: JFM 1900 Runcorn 8a 200 and Nellie is Runcorn 8a 215 JFM 1898 Runcorn is the reg. district for Antrobus. You wouldn't need to give the mother's name with the GRO reference. Janice

Hi Janice I haven't a birth certificate for Nellie or Frank who appear on the 1901 census. As I can't trace Fannie's father through lack of detail, I'll have to order her birth certificate over the phone and explain that it could be 'Fannie', 'Fanny' or 'Frances', but that she is recorded as being born in Antrobus. I hope I get a sympathetic person - s/he will need a stiff drink by the time I,ve finished! Thanks so much for your efforts. Alice

See what you mean about her being elusive!! I've had no luck at all. Do you have the birth cert for any of her children to see if her name is definitely Fanny and not Frances? Janice

Was she a spinster at her marriage?

Unknown Report 18 Aug 2007 20:52

The above lady is elusive! She was born in 1872 in Antrobus, Cheshire.I have her marriage cert to Joseph Hindley in 1897 which states that her father George (deceased) was a coachman. I can only find her on the 1901 census - nothing between 1872 and marriage. I've tried many spelling variations, but zilch. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks Alice
