Thanks Huia When I added the 'spot on' message I hadn't seen Andrea's. In actual fact you and Andrea are quite right it is First Cousin 5x removed. Many thanks Colin

They cant all be spot on, Colin. I agree with Andrea. First cousin 5 times removed. The 3X gt grandfather and the son of the brother are first cousins, so going down each step is once removed for your 2X gt, twice for your gt grandfather, 3X for your grandfather, 4X for your father, and 5X removed for yourself.

Thanks Claire I understand the uncle bit ie my 4x gt grandfather's brother would be my 4x gt uncle. But would HIS son also be an uncle? Or would he be my 3x gt nephew? I'm confused my heads spinning!! Overdosed on research today. Colin
