Thanks Glitter, yes I have asked about her before. I think I have exhausted every angle. I have even plotted her aunts marriages in case she adopted there surnames but no luck. Just one of those things, but so frustrating

Lynda,

This seems familiar.

You might have to cross reference every Matilda from 1841 census and find them in 1851. Then eliminate by checking marriages and deaths.

I have exhausted my pc trying to find Matilda Latham brn 1824 birmingham on the 1841, 1851 census. Can find her fine from her marriage in 1852, but nothing before. Probs I have is her mother died when she was abt 18 months old, so could have been fostered out and a name change. At her marriage in 1852 she was 28, late in those days for a 1st marriage, so although she put down spinster on the cert I have she may not have been, although I cannot find an earlier marriage for her. It is really frustrating, can anybody else think of how her name may have been mistranscribed on these census
