I wonder if any one can tell if it is possible to get a baptism certificate for a baptism that took place at the Manchester Cathedral on 13.8.1878 - how do I go about this?

Thank you - Leigh

I think you would need to go to the County Records office and try to find the entry for the baptism in the parish records and get a photocopy of it.

Hi Kath,

Thank you for your reply - I have a problem, I live in Australia so do not have that option - Is there anywhere I can write or communicate with?

Thanks - Leigh

I'm not certain but I think this is the address you would need:-

Postal Address:
Lancashire Record Office
Bow Lane
PRESTON
Lancashire
PR1 2RE
UK

Tel: +44(0)1772 533039

There is an email address but Genes don't always let you add them to threads. I'll give it a try:-

record.office(the sign for at)ed.lancscc.gov.uk

Hope you understand this.

Hi Ann,

Thank you so much for your offer, that would be terrific. So sorry that I have taken time to reply but with the time difference it makes it hard as sleep is needed when working.

The information is:

JOHN WAGSTAFFE Born ?1868
HARRY WAGSTAFFE Born ?1872
Baptism 13.8.1878 Manchester Cathedral
Father: John
Mother: ????

I cannot find birth certificates for these two boys and wondered if they may be adopted so thought I may get something from their Baptism certificate.

Many thanks again Leigh

Leigh, it always better to send a private message (pm) with your email address rather than put it on a public forum.

The fact that you can't find birth registrations may be simply because the births were not registered. It wasn't compulsory until 1875.........

Thank you all so much. Had to get off site as on my way to work. I really appreciate all your help it is fantastic - I don't know how you have done that as I have been looking for the last 12 months for that family and had more Wagstaffe birth certificates than I know what to do with and none of them are the right ones.

Thank you all again.

Kind regards Leigh
