Really Kath - well that surprises me as OH's auntie lives at Newton le Willows, near Liverpool.

If thats the case, then go for it :)

Her husband is listed as being from Newton Le Willows, Yorkshire.
There's one in Yorkshire too.

Only thing is - the 1901 has it in Yorkshire and Newton le Willows is in Lancs isnt it - near Liverpool?

Actually where is it transcribed/shown as Crakecoal?

KathleenBell

Think I might have found it.

Not far from Newton-le-Willows where Henry comes from is a place called Little Crakehall and another called Great Crakehall. Crakehall might have sounded like Crakecoal to the enumerator.

I'd bet on that being the birthplace.

Do you know Jane's maiden name so we can look for her on an earlier census?

In the 1891 census the birthplace is given as Crakshill - but I still haven't heard of it and can't find it on the map.

As it happens in 1891 they are living next door but one from a distant rellie of mine - small world.
