My Great Aunt did a disappearing act in the 1940s. We think she may of gone to America but not sure. She was marred before she went but just upped and left her husband and hasntbeen heard of since. Now I know she is unlikely to be alive now but would like to be able to track her movements, If she went to America in the 40s how would she of got there? and any other ideas for looking for her.

Have you considered that she might have married a GI and gone to the States that route. I don't know whether there are any records of GI brides and there movements.

Kare and Derek

thank you will have to look at passenger lists first. will have tocheck on married and maiden name but quite common Newell and Sutton oh well long trawl ahead.

If she married a GI then she would of had to of got a divorce (or not maybe) and havent any knowledge on her husband apart from his name so suppose could try finding him.

What's her middle name?

My husband would like to know what happened to his Grt.Great Uncle George, who, family legend has it, disappeared on his way to his wedding. Not actually the same day, but was walking from somewhere in the Lakes, to somewhere near Carlisle, I think. Haven't revisited the story for some years. Think it was between the wars Never seen again by anyone in the family as far as we know.
If still alive would be in his ninetys.
Where did you go George Bowman, did you love another, or were you set upon by footpads and despatched to a lonely moorland grave. My dear late father-in-law would have loved to know what happened to his much admired uncle.
