Hi Arline,

Here's the marriage you want. This is on FreeBMD.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

You search for a Thomas Hedley to a Sarah Elizabeth:

Marriages Dec 1885
Heath Ellen Harriett Farnham 2a 153
**Hedley Thomas Farnham 2a 153
MAYNE Henry William J Farnham 2a 153
**MILLIN Sarah Elizabeth Farnham 2a 153

Arline,

If you order online with the information Roy has given above, make sure that when the online form asks "Is the Full GRO reference known?" that you check the "yes" box otherwise they will charge you more.

Unfortunately, (in England and Wales at least) you can't view a certificate without buying it.

Always use the web address already given (or the relevant register office) and NOT some of the other companies who supply certificates and charge anything up to about £40. £7 is the correct price for a certificate.

Arline,

What was your grandfather's name and when/where was he born?

Was Caroline your mother?

Thank you for reply Kath - sorry to bother you again but dont quite know how to get birth certificate.
Found name "HEDLEY Caroline Emma" and birth was listed as between Oct and Dec 1886. The whole page was numbered 239 and her name had District: Farnham -
Vol.a -page 100.
Can you tell me where and how I view a birth certificate from this or do I have to apply to Somerset house?
Thanks again, in anticipation, if you have time to reply.

If you buy the birth certificate for either your mother or father (whichever one's parents you are looking for), then it will have your grandmother's maiden name on it.

I have found quite a lot about my grandfather but cannot find anything for grandmother as I do not know her surname when she was single.
I have no idea when they were married so have not found husbands marriage certificate either.
Can anyone help - I'm new at geneology.
