Ancestry has the Scottish census but you need Scotlands People to access the original transcripts. This also has BMD from 1855, Old Parish Registers with Births & Baptisms, Banns & Marriages from 1553-1854, Wills & Testaments search 1513-1901(Free). Unlike Ancestry it is by pay per view if you are unsure what you are looking for Scotlands people can work out quite expensive.

Hi Tracy

I live in Scotland and have the opposite problem trying to find English relatives!

What area of Scotland are you looking for? The Family History Societies can be very useful. Have you tried Scotland BDM exchange and ScotlandsFamily tree forum is great and very friendly.

Got to go and do a taxi trip for daughter . will look in later.

Hi Tracy,
Like you my ancestors came from Scotland and I live down south in Hampshire.
I used scotlandspeople which is really good.
I also used familysearch (IGI).
From scotlandspeople I have managed to download images of entries back to the 1600s.
give it a go.

Hi Tracy

Have been trying to think of some good sites for you. Have you tried talkingscot or ayrshirehistory.com? both I have heard are good.

I find scotlandspeople as good as any though especially as you can download images to your computer and all previous searches are kept for the next time you log on to the site.

Hope this helps

Hi Tracy

Not sure from your post which sites would be "new" to you....
Amanda has detailed the paying sites you'll need to use for indexes or original transcripts, and Diana mentioned TalkingScot.
www.talkingscot.com is a MUST for anyone with Scottish ancestors who could benefit from the wealth of info on the site or a discussion with their very knowledgeable moderators and members.

Hello Tracy, and there's me thinking you were lovely getting back to everyone 3 years later (almost to the day lol) :)

Some people like Foggy are still around, maybe some of the others too :))))

It's a useful thread to bump up. The local family history societies can be very good too. ANESFHS (aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society) is very good and they have a good site too if you're looking at that area. Not sure about the areas you are researching though. :)

Good luck with your search. x
