HI ALL, (ESPECIALLY MILITARY BUFFS!!!)

I HAVE A JOHN MOLONEY, BORN IRELAND C1836 IN MY TREE. I KNOW HE WAS IN THE 54TH REGIMENT OF FOOT AND TRAVELLED THE WORLD WITH THIS ARMY, TRAILING HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN WITH HIM. I DON'T KNOW AN EXACT DATE OF LEAVING THE ARMY, ALL I KNOW IS THAT IN 1891, HE WAS LIVING AND WORKING IN GLASGOW WITH HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN. WHEN HE DIED IN 1903, HIS DEATH CERT STATED HE WAS AN ARMY PENSIONER. I HAVE SEARCHED THE RECORDS AT THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES AND CAN'T FIND ANY TRACE OF HIM. ALL THE RECORDS SEEM TO ONLY GO UP TO AROUND 1850ISH, THEN JUMP STRAIGHT TO WW1.COULD ANYONE TELL ME IF I AM BEING THICK PERHAPS!! AND MAYBE LOOKING IN THE WRONG PLACE? OR MAYBE THESE RECORDS AREN'T ONLINE YET? I FIND THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES VERY CONFUSING!!MY GUESS IS THAT HE JOINED THE ARMY AROUND 1855-1860 AND LEFT AROUND THE 1880S (PERHAPS 30 YRS SERVICE) I HAVE SEARCHED FOR HIM UNDER MANY MULTIPLE VARIATIONS OF THE NAME MOLONEY BUT TO NO AVAIL. PPLLEEEEEASE HELP!!

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS POST!!

Hi Evelyn

My g grandfather was pensioned off from the army in 1901 and died 6 months later. There was nothing that I could find on line but I hired someone to look for his pension records, a Roger E Nixon. He was very reasonable. E-mail him at [email protected] or look at his website www.pro-search.co.uk. He will point you in the right direction.

I received his pension records which gave me his character, a description of him and why he was pensioned off, his address, previous profession etc.
All priceless.

Alison.

Don't think you will find anything on line yet, unfortunately.
