Cheshire Tithe Maps online

I posted this earlier on the General Topics forum, but it's been suggested that I should re-post here, as the general topic forum soon gets swamped. (Thanks Linda). Hopefully it'll stay around long enough to be of use to s few people.

Cheshire County Council has put its Tithe Maps online at http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/.

So far there are about 97% of the maps online and 56% of the accompanying apportionment information. You can search this information for your ancestors, and as well as finding out which property they owned and how they used it, you can compare the results against todays maps as well as 19th century maps OS maps and aerial photgraphy.

As a genealogist I think its fantastic, but I have to admit to a professional interest as I was on the team that worked on the site. But take a look and see what you think.

Hi Sharon,

Well done on a great project.

I must admit I thought I wouldn't be able to find my way round the site at first, but once I realised that you can search for a name and then get the transcribed details and part of the original map showing the boundaries, I realised how good the site is.

Just wish it was an area in my research.

Well done!!

(Strange - there have been a few threads about Tithe Maps tonight).
