Hi all.
I was quoted 1p per entry, which worked out at abt £20, but that was for all Devon, but iam only interested in 2 parishes at the moment Tavistock & Topsham, so iam asking them to break them down to just those two.

No, it wont be copies, just the transcribed info - have a look at freereg, or Norfolk transcription archives - thatll give you an idea of what to expect.

LOVELY, will give you hours of pleasure Im sure :)

Hi Gill

If its the same as Cornwall FHS they have a database they have entered transcribed records onto. They can then extract all the entries for one surname and then send it to you as an email attachment.

Each entry is only 1 line so 1500 probably wouldnt be more than a few A4 sheets.

You cant be sure they are 100% complete but the ones I've had from Cornwall have been a great help.

Best wishes

The way I understand it is, they call them computer printouts, I think they must be indexes of that particular name, they can't be actual copies can they? they are telling me there is about 1,500 records of the Lock family in Devon, I think I had better email them and find out.
I will have a look at that website

Ah, so not a batch of parish records, but a list of one name taken from transcribed records?

Dont know - you are very lucky to have the option to do that - Devon and Cornwall are very good at getting parish records together. I wish Norfolk were as good!
Well I guess if they are just listing hundreds of names and events it wont be that big an attachment really. Is that what you are concerned about?

Norfolk has the transcription archives site which lists all events for names but is no longer being updated and free reg will be doing the same thing. Of course it will then be up to you to piece the families
together - aargh! Still its a brilliant help. I was very pleased when I found the Norfolk transcriptions.

Have a google for freereg and see if that brings up any events for the name aswell.

Hi Heather,
I went onto the Devon Family history societies webbsite they give you options as to what you wont baptism, marriages or burials. You give them a surname and they send a quote, but they say they are sending them all as an attachment in e-mails and there is hundreds.

Are you talking about ordering particularly fiches from familysearch.org? The Mormon site? If so, I believe you contact the local Mormon centre and arrange to view them at the office using their equipment for a small fee.

I cant see there would be anyway you could order parish records for just one name. Unless you mean trees that have been submitted to a FHS? If you know better, Id LOVE to know - would make my life easier.:)

Fortunately, the wonderful volunteers are currently working their way through records for the online site freereg - probably a few decades of work there though to go.

If so how does it work?
