I am researching Sarchwell/Searchwells and have come to a dead end- i have a possible family that may connect with mine but i know of no way to confirm or discount them as its all previous to census details/marriage/birth/death certificates.. I have a family of Searchwells in Newcastle- James Searchwell married an Elizabeth Watson in 1779 ( info from IGI)-They had a son James in 1781 and a son John in 1790 ( IGI).
Then i have a John Searchwell marrying an Isabella Williams in Liverpool in 1822 ( from IGI)- they had children John 1823,Robert 1824 and Mary 1835. I have the family on the 1851 census ( minus the father John who had died), and have their baptism dates from IGI.
John and Robert were watermen (pilots)- apparantly this trade tended to run in families-
if this is the case- if their father John was born in Newcastle then he already had some links to harbours/water etc.
Ive ordered a cd of watermen apprenticeship records-which i hope will give further info- fingers crossed that their father may have records on there- which may confirm his mother/father details.
But if he isnt on- is this really a dead end or is there anything i can do?
Thankyou,- you lot are invaluable.
