Is it best to reply direct or on the board?

How does someone know that a Trying to Find post has been answered on this new look board?

The old format was really so much better...you clicked on the persons name, replied and they get a email from GR telling of the contact. Now we have this thread and I am about to respond to a June post but if I do it on the board, do I also have send a personal message like before?

I really, really don't like some of these changes!

Maybe its best just to send a private message- then you know they wil get it.

But on the other hand. if you say nothing on the thread, they may get the same infoa million times... sent by pm

Thats true, maybe do both!
It should inform the person when they get a response to a thread.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one wondering how to respond on the "trying to find" board.

We are agreed! In order for our fellow members to know their fellow members are responding and helping them, we have to duplicate everything! Are you listening GR Support?,

I looked at the Trying To Find board today and just couldn't be bothered opening up some of the posts to see the full message. I'm not so interested in the surname as the county/place because I have lots of experience researching Lancashire and the old format gave you a quick glance at the whole post.
