Death registration by undertaker

After getting a certificate this week, I went to search through old copies of the local newspaper to see if I could get any information from this and see if it showed a connection to the person who registered the death and it seems that it was the funeral director who registered her death, anyone know why he would do this and not a relative, I know she had never married but she had at least one sister.

Seems another sad story

We have had this on my o.h's side. This happened in Canada, and was his errant grandfather who left his family and ,we think, married again bigamously whilst there.

We have been in touch with the undertakers, and this happened in 1970's,and they said it is quite a normal procedure.Maybe no-one wanted to register the death.,or had her sister died before her,or was maybe estranged?

There was an inquest after my dad died and the coroner's office took care of the arrangements, including registering the death.
