A: Er, what I paid good money to do, that is, to be able to use the advertised facilities!
This is the part of the content of an email I sent via Friends Reunited 'Support' some weeks ago :-
"I have not experienced any problems until recently, when the GR site was 'upgraded'. I can log on to GR using either Firefox or Safari satisfactorily, however I do have the following problems:-
Rarely can I upload info to a 'new' or existing relative - I get a
message:- 'Sorry, there was a problem connecting to the Genes
Reunited site!' - although on occasions the info has been saved
anyway - sometimes in multiples.
I have been unable to upload photographs - I get an error message, [HTTP Error, 302 occurred.] even photos I have previously uploaded won't work!
If I place the name, O'Connor in the search box on my 'Family Tree' page, I get the 'No matches found' message - which is strange, since it's my family name! (How many other names are ignored?).
I am also unable to contact GR Support from 'my' page either, - I get 'Sorry there has been an unexpected error.'
I am using a G4 Mac 1GHz. Mac OSX Tiger. Browsers:- Safari/Firefox. Broadband 4MGb connection.
Hoping you can resolve my problem,"
To which I received the following reply:-
"As far as we aware, the latest version of Mozilla Firefox should be totally compatible with the site. [I agree, SHOULD BE, but it aint!]
With regards to the problems with photos and searches for names with apostrophes, I have passed this onto our technical team to have a look at. Please bear with us while we work to resolve this.
I am sorry for the inconvenience."
To date, little has changed. Weeks pass, I send another email asking if the incompatability problems might be resolved before my membership expires in February 2008.
I now await a reply. I'm not holding my breath...
....So if you use a Mac computer, I suggest that you keep your money in your hot little hand and spend it elsewhere!

PS. Oh yes, and those photos that I previously uploaded? They've disappeared, along with a few DoB's.

sorry to hear youve got probs, gr should have the soft ware for both macs and pc, what they playing at...eh, and whats with all this advertising at the top, side, bottom. dont they get enough money from us, if thats the case maybe the site should be free......lol
hope you sort the problem out soon, not right we have enough trouble finding our relllies then having to put em on , not lose what we have....

Hi again,
Four weeks+ and STILL it doesn't work, what a load of old cobblers this site is. I'm considering asking for my money back, I wonder what the Office of Fair Trading would have to say? ITV have recently bought GR, -perhaps that says it all!

I have FTM...followed destructions to export from GR to a gedcom wotzit.....
Did the alterations...(which GR wont allow) tried to import back with corrected info....
It says I have a corrupted thingy wozit! Emailed GR with problem.....still waiting for answer....4 weeks now.
Aaaggghh and I'm paying for this!
Tis time to look for a new genealogy site me thinks...
