Hi Marie,

Just saw your message and thought I'd try to look it up. I found a site which explains what they did and the history of them through the beginning of 20th century, not sure if it will help you at all but it does say they were important people.

The site is www.virtualshipbroking.com/shipbrokers

Hope it helps a bit!

Thanks
Sarah

Hi All
I wonder if anyone could tell me, if someone was employed in one of the above occupations, would they be well off people or not ? I am just trying to get a feel for the kind of people and lifestyle of some of my ancestors. Have googled but couldn't find a great deal to be honest. Any help, much appreciated.
Thanks
Marie x
