Maiden name on birth certificate if widow.

Hi

If a woman was widowed after 3 months of marriage, and then married again 2 years later, is it likely that on the birth certificates of her children from her 2nd marriage, as listed on ancestry, mothers maiden name would be given as her original maiden name, and not her previous married name?

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks, Carol.

Carol - I have seen certs where the woman's previous married name is listed as well as her maiden name.

Maiden name and previous married name are not to be confused as the same thing. Maiden name is only the name you were born with. If she failed to mention that she'd been married before then you might just find her maiden name on the cert and not her previous married name.

Hope I've not confused you either!

Thanks Athena, that makes perfect sense!!

So, I could well be on the right line then - I was just surprised to see the mothers maiden name on Ancestry instead of her previous married name, but seeing as though she was only married for 3 months (1st husband was killed in the war) maybe so.

Thanks and best wishes

Carol

Hi Christine, I haven't actually got the certificate yet, just found what I think is a match on Ancestry, but the mothers maiden name is given as her birth name and not her previous married name, if you get me!!

Thanks, Carol
