Well Seaham Lass.. I hadn't thought of that either..
I've just been trawling through parish records on Ancestry feeling frustrated.
That little tip has really cheered me up !
Thanks again

I looked at the 1841 census for Hulme, Manchester and it looks as though Timothy wasn't an only child
William Brownlow 40
Mary 30
William15
Mary 13
Timothy 8
Margaret 4
James 3 months
If you can find the birth registration for the last child James born 1841 then his birth certificate should give you his mother's maiden name.
Good luck

You won't get a birth certificate before 1837 when civil registration began.

Usually you would need to look for a baptism in the parish records. Is it possible he was baptised in the local church once he reached 'home'?

My GGG Grandfather William Brownlow was born at sea coming from India (British Subject) in approx 1798.
He married Mary from Manchester and their son Timothy born 1837 in London, Middlesex was my GG Grandfather.
They all ended up in Manchester.
My question is how do I find out who Williams parents were or where would I find a birth certificate?

Thanks in advance
