I don't think it's him but will keep a note of the details. Many thanks for your help anyway.

When William married in 1869 James was not listed as deceased.

The only births I can find are in the Aylesbury district and I've already got one wrong cert from there. Was Thame a separate district in those days?

You'd have to look for a death for James in that time frame, it not unusual for people to re marry after the spouse die

Thanks Julie,
I can't quite get my head round how this would fit.
I think it would be unusual for an Ag Lab to divorce in those days. And the Pheobe Small marriage is within 5 yrs of the marriage to James.

Hi Julie,
Going by William's marriage in 1869 where his father is still living and no other mention of the "T" would you think it unlikely?

I can’t find 1861 or 1851 Census or Birth for my Gt Grandfather William SMALL. I’ve searched and searched.
Marriage cert says his father is James.
1881 census says born Bucks living in Isleworth
1871 says born Long Crendon, Bucks living in Isleworth
All these would indicate he was born 1847.

I’ve got a birth cert., which I’m sure is wrong one, saying born Haddenham district to James and Maria Jane but they come up on 1881 census with a son William aged 16yrs!

I think Long Crendon probably comes under the Thame district but just can’t find him.

Could anyone help me find him – Please.
