Does Sophia have an Uncle George and Auntie Martha by any chance.

There is a Sophia Skeggs b abt 1828 living in Barking Essex with George and Martha Skeggs and other children.

As no relationships to the head of the house are mentioned maybe Sophia could be a niece rather than a daughter.

I was just wondering if the whole family had been mistranscribed as Skeggs instead of Siggs.

I think this may be her
Sophia Cigs age 15 servant at Euston. Suffolk.
Stoke by Nayland is listed as Suffolk in the 1841 census and Sophia is of this county. Irene

Looking at the IGI I see that there was a sister Henrietta so that isn't a possibility after all.

Hi Kate The only other way I have seen it is Sofia. Did she have a middle name? I see there is a Henrietta Siggs around the same age born in the same place. Perhaps she used her middle name?

Possibly with her mother's family under the mother's maiden name?

Alternatively she may be somewhere as a servant...

Also her age may be rounded - so look for Sophia 1825-1830 for a start

I have hit a bit of a brick wall looking for my ancestor Sophia Siggs in the 1841 census and wondered if anyone could suggest any creative ways to look for a misspelt name.

I know she was alive after this date as I traced her as far forward as the 1901 census. Her father John and stepmother Mary Ann are living in Escrick, Yorkshire in 1841, mistranslated as "Liggs" and I have traced most of her stray siblings but can't find her. She was born in Stoke by Nayland in Suffolk or Essex, but the family in general seem to be in the Yorkshire area at this time.

Has anyone got any bright ideas? I have looked for misspellings such as Liggs/Tiggs/Seggs and for every Sophia born in 1827 but nothing showed up. I am wondering if her first name has been translated wrongly.
