If it's up for sale somebody must have recently seen the deeds. Why don't you contact the estate agent concerned?

Thank again Ann. I already checked into burial and found her son buried her. I admit I didn't check for a will, and it looks like I should given you say you have had some success there with very poor members of your family. I have to admit I was assuming, if someone was very poor, they wouldn't have a will.

My family were very poor too, but they occasionally left wills! What about burial records. Was the person buried local to that address? Perhaps you could find out who arranged/paid for the funeral.

Thanks Gwyn and Ann.

Unfortunately there actually isn't even electoral roll or directory records for some years before or after. I asked the library about this and they said it was probably because the house was one where tennants came and went quite a lot, so their names didn't make it into the electoral roll lists or local directories.

No wills either, as sadly my family were very poor!

Could the person have left a will? Perhaps the occupants of the house may have got a mention, if so

It might be worth checking electoral lists for 1939 and 1945.
If the occupants are the same people in these years, the odds are that they were there in 1944 too....although men may be away at war.
I have seen local lists near here for both May and October 1945, so the lists should be available for your address.

I know its not what you are looking for, but 22 Kitchener Street is currently up for sale and there is a photo of it on the internet.

It is just a terraced house so it rules out it being a hospital or home of any kind. As there are no directories or electoral registers available for that year, I doubt very much whether you will be able to find out who lived there.

Unfortunately, the informant on the death certificate was the lady's son, who didn't live at the address she died at, so the death certificate gives me no clue as to whose house it was she died at.

Hi,

I am trying to find out who lived at 22 Kitchener Street in King's Lynn in 1944. I've been to the local record office and they can't help as there aren't directory / electoral roll records for around this date due to the war.

A very mysterious member of my family travelled to this address in 1944 and died there late summer 1944 and I'm desperate to know whose house it was, in the hope this will help me break through some brick walls.

Has anybody any ideas as to how I could find this out?

Many Thanks

Al
