Try http://scotfamtree.11.forumer.com

We are primarily a Scottish site but do have members who do some Irish look-ups.

It's free to register but there is a subscription site also if you feel it would help you.

Post on the introduction thread - lets people know you're new and they'll help you navigate the site - it's a lot bigger than this one!

Hi Liz,

You could try:

http://www.irish-roots.net/
http://www.irishfamilyresearch.co.uk/

They're both good as far as they go.

Scotland's People includes records of Irish immigrants once they're in Scotland, but has no immigration records and obviously has no records of individuals prior to their arrival in Scotland.

One useful way of narrowing down your Irsih search: if you have the names of two people who emigrated from Ireland together you can use Griffith's Valuation (http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php) to narrow down which part of Ireland they came from; just enter both surnames in turn and look for the places that turn up frequently in both results sets.

Hope that helps.

John.

As most of my husbands ancestors go back to Scotland and then Ireland - does anyone know a site which holds records for both.

Or does one have to subscribe to different sites to access any of these.

I know about "Scotlands People" but would this site have records of people coming to Scotland from Ireland?

Many thanks in anticipation of any help.
