Thanks to you all I may have sorted it. I think Ann Treston 1841, Ann Hierston 1851 and Ann Irestone 1861 are the same person (age, place of birth Grove and family are good matches). Looking at original of 1841 census Treston could easily be Ireston. As Hannah couldn't read (her mark on marriage and birth certificates) the variety of spellings are approximations of what she said. When Thomas Kent (who probably could read ) registered their son's birth he gave her maiden name as Irestone as did her employer in 1861. Checked again her place of birth as Hannah Kent 1871 Grove 1881 and 1891 Swindon 1901 Wantage (registration district for Grove). So I think Hannah Kent was most probably formerly Hannah or Ann Irestone. Thanks again.

Yes was to Julie concerning age on her marriage certificate. I also have copies of birth certificates of two of her children hence the 3 spellings of her surname. Sending for the 2nd b c only made matters worse.Ann Irestone and Ann Hierston seem the closest fits though in subsequent censuses she is Hannah born in Swindon.Thanks for all your help

Yes. Given as 25 on m c but 1871 as 33 and 1881 as 42 so it doesn't add up.

Hi i checked the free BMD and this is the only entry it came up with for the Surname you said i checked for all types of certs but that dosnt mean it dosnt excist it may just mean it hasnt been transcribed from the original book yet

Do you have her M/C for her Age, the only time she is coming up on the BMD site is for her Marriage

I have a problem with my g g grandmother's surname. On Oct 23 1862 she married Thomas Kent.Her name was given as Anna Hriston, her father as Joseph Hriston. Their residence was given as Bath Road Swindon.On g grandmother Susannah's birth cert. she is Hannah Hirtson. On Susannah's brother's birth cert. the name looks like Irestone. Can anyone help with solving this?
