Joiner Carp, anybody know what this occupation was

Whoops misread that and ofcourse it is only any use if you are looking in Ireland. (Too long at the screen and am going ga-ga!)

have you tried the trade listings e.g. Slaters for entries under that family name. Trades were also often followed by other family members and you might get lucky

Yes as Tracie says he is a Joiner Carpenter.

should imagine carp short for carpenter and own account means self-employed

Hi, I have been looking on the 1901 census for an ancester William buckley born around 1879 in Davenham, Cheshire. He is married to Annie. In the 1891 Census he is down as a Joiner, but in the 1901 he is down as a Joiner Carp, along with his son and nephew, he is also down as having an Own Account, Any Ideas what this is?
