I have a Mary Jane Smith (my great Grandmother) who married James Durrant in Leytonstone Essex Dec 8th 1888.

Her father is given as Samuel Smith builder

I have found her in 1881 in Dennington Suffolk where she is staying with her uncle at the Queens Head Inn - presumably where she met James, who lives in Dennington.

She has London Poplar London Middlesex as her place of birth and a birth year of 1866, but I can't find her in 1871, which I hope would give me her parents names and dates of birth.

Poplar doesn't seem to be on Ancestry - what else could I try?

Many thanks for any help

Do you have her on the 1981, if yes is her birth year the same as the 1881

Thankyou for those - I'll follow them up. I think I have just found the details for her birth certificate so I'll send for that asap.

Many thanks

Hi Petrina

WHen did she marry and what age does it state on marriage cert?
Ages on censuses can be very misleading as some people were unsure of their age, although as i've found with one of my relatives he stated on his marriage he was 28 when infact he was 33 which him and his wife went back to the church and rectified 30 years after the marriage took place!!
