Finding marriages about 1800 and before Help pleas

I have the BVRI discs and sometimes they're a wealth of information. I came across a christening record yesterday that had not only the parents' names but also the father's father, father's mother, mother's father and mother's mother!
How I wish they were all like that.

Mother's maiden name was added to the birth index in the September qtr. of 1911 and was on certificates from registration in 1837.

If you give some more details and names someone will try to help.

For marriages before 1800 you need parish records or have a look on www.familysearch.org and click on IGI.

MMN was on certs from the beginning........late 1837 onwards.

Prior to the introduction of General Registration, the only records were Parish registers, which recorded baptisms............not births.

Some records are transcribed on the IGI, but by no means all..........

Any tips about finding details of a marriage. When did mothers maiden name get entered onto birth certificates? I am hoping this may just be of help from the next generation and then work back.I know fathers name and approx date of marriage. Any other ideas?
