Hi
Spent this evening on a number of diff military sites but with no luck.
Does anyone out there know how I can get info on a particular individual who fought at this battle in 1915?

The info I have is John Thomas born in 1883, Was awarded the DCM for his part in the war in Ypres Belguim 1915. The mayor of Aberystywth awarded it to him along with a 'handsome clock and bag of sovereigns.'

Not much to go on, any ideas, useful sites

Thanks
Caroline

On the National Archives site is says this:-

***The DCM Card Index can be found under catalogue reference:- WO 372/23 ****

I'm afraid I've never been able to understand much on the National Archives site, so I don't know what will be in these indexes, but might help you.

Hmm!
I've just scanned through some paperwork and it seems John was born in Radcliffe, Lancs although his parents Moses and Catherine were born in montgomeryshire. it's possible he lived in Wales but obv can't be the men you have found if they were born there. His family were travelling showmen and hawkers so maybe some records aren't quite as complete as they should be ???
My father may well have his service number etc but I wont be in touch with him for a few days :(

Thanks for your help though George x
