How to find my gr.grandmother maiden name?

I have her death certificate & I know the year she was born (1800 in Scotland).
I know who she married but not when or where (but if was likely to be Scotland).

Can you try for a birth cert. of any of your great grandmothers children? That would give you her maiden name.

All her children were born in Inverness before coming to Australia & I have no birth dates just the years.
She died in South Australia.
Her name was Anna & her husband Andrew Gillies.
In the Scottish census they lived Back of Keppock Ardnamurchan Inverness. .

on the 1841 census I have an Andrew and Anne McGillies in Ardnamurchan with family...Did they drop the Mc at all .....?? Is this the same family now known as Gillies ??

The children were born in Ardnamurchan but I know only the years.

Andrew & Anna's GILLIES first child was born in 1824 -
so the marriage was around 1822/3?

1. Anna 1824
2. Angus born 1827
3. Mary 1834
4. Donald 1837
5. Christian (Christina) 1839
6. Ewen 1842
7. John 1845

All were born in Inverness before leaving for Australia.
