Hi All.
Sorry about delay my sister turned up and had to go out. Many many thanks. I had not found the 1891 entries, probaly went cross eyed at looking. Found Sarah Ann Harrison and think that I shall have to check that out. Maybe if I go up to Reading I will be able to search the records. But it will be a while as I live on Exmoor. Again many thanks
Margaret.

Or if Margaret is in the Wantage area, she could go to her local records office and have a look at the parish registers

Cheers Athena!

Possibly!

I think the Sarah Ann would be one worth chasing if it was my tree - she may have been using her middle name. I would get that cert even if it's just to rule it out.

As for George - hmmmm - you're right, neither of the two entries showing up on Ancestry are saying "come and get me!" LOL

I think Margaret will need to have a ponder over all of this and decide if she wants to take a gamble with either of them.

I can't find a registration that I like for either of them!

Do you think there's a chance they weren't registered with them being illegitimate?

Yes, good theory but I still can't find an obvious entry for George :)

There is this possible but it's not Wantage:

Name: Thomas George Harrison
Year of Registration: 1878
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Wokingham
County: Berkshire, Wiltshire
Volume: 2c

Just a thought! If George and Edith didn't marry until 1879, Ann may have been born with the surname Harrison. What's the bet that H stands for Harrison! lol

Just been thinking re the missing birth entries for George and Ann - could they have been registered under their mother's maiden name, since they were born prior to the parents marriage?

If so, there is this entry that might be a possible for the daughter:

Name: Sarah Ann Harrison
Year of Registration: 1876
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Wantage
County: Berkshire, Oxfordshire
Volume: 2c

Hi I am stuck on this.
George Watts b:1857/58 Wantage Berks(Oxon)
Wife Edith (Harrison) B:1858 Wantage Berks. (Oxon)
Children Ann H 1876
George H 1879
Ernest Albert 1881
All born Wantage. Found on 1881 census living in Wantage no sign of them in 1891. Found George and Edith in 1901 census in London with Ernest. Cannot find birth registered for George H or Ann H. Would love to find out where they are in 1891 and also if they had more children. Have found Marriage of George and Edith in Wantage 1879.
