Thanks to those who have sent me an email, and for the rest of you, here's a little more info. I'm sorry but I was a bit vague the first time.

According to her death registration on ancestry, Helen Joyce Edwards, nee Lawrence was born 26/12/1920. I don't know where, but her foster parents, the Noble family, lived in the London area.

Helen Joyce Lawrence married John Ernest Sydney Green in Lambeth register office on 7th June 1947, and her father was named as Edward Lawrence, a welfare officer. This was news to us as she told her daughter, my mother in law, that she didn't know who her parents were, and that she was fostered when she was 4 years old.

She later married David T Stanley Edwards, but I think that it was abroad and there is no registration for it. She lived in Carmarthen with him and died a widower in Feb 2003.

I hope this is more helpful to you all, and thanks again for your help.

Shauna,

I have found the birth registration of a Helen J. Lawrence in Amersham (Bucks) registration district Oct/Dec. qtr. Amersham Vol.3a page 1612. Mothers maidden name Darvell. I think you should get this certificate and will see if I can find the place to send for it.

OK, send £7 cheq. and a stamped self addressed envelope, the name of the persons birth cert. that you require Helen Joyce Lawrence giving the birth date as you know it, and tell them that the registration was in Amersham District that might help them locate it in their ledgers.
The Register Office
Easton Street,
High Wycombe, HP11 1NH

Good luck.

Thank you so much Marilyn. The spooky thing is I live in High Wycombe now, but never knew she might be from here. You may have just helped me solve a problem that has been ongoing for many years now. I will go to the register office in person and try to find her, and thank you again for your help.

Out of interest, how did you find her???
