When was your g grandfather (the soldier)born?
You can find his birth on freebmd and get the cert,

I think you could find Maud Walker on the 1901 census...with son Thomas who must have been born then to be a soldier in 1916...
Then you could use freebmd to find Maud's marriage to ....etc

Hi everyone, I do have his army number 53539 3rd Somerset Light Infantry he was a Cpl. Thank you for all your help, I will try and find his birth entry. The problem I have trying to trace the Walker family is that my Husband also Thomas Walker and his father was called Thomas Walker married a Barbara Jean Walker (No relation) it is such a common name I seem to be chasing my tail trying to find out anything about the family. all I have is my husbands grandfathers 1916-18 army papers.

Why dont you look for hubbys grandfathers birth?...buy the cert £7 and then you will know both his parents names. Also his Mothers maiden name.

That should then take you back to the 1901 census where it will get easier to follow the Walker line.

On my husbands grandfathers
Soldiers pay book dated 12/7/1916 for use on active service his next of kin is his mother Maud Elizabeth Walker
address 6Bk.20 South Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. does anyone know how I can trace the family. That is the only iinformation I have on the Walker family.
