looking for police records help

Try contacting the police force that he was in (remembering boundry changes and the like). Many police forces have their own 'in house' museums and may be able help. Also the national police magazine 'Police Review' will print an appeal for information in their letters column.

I have just read a magazine article about Victorian Police, it suggests a source of information as www.policehistorysociety.co.uk

I haven't looked at it yet, but I will as I have just discovered one in my past as well.

Hi Both,
Try the local Research Office or Library for your area as I know that Cardiff holds some information on the local police forces from the turn of the last century. I think it would be worth a try.

hi someone in my tree was in the police force between abt 1860 to 1881 is there anyway of getting his records.
