I have just received a death certificate,
the person died 25 September 1945 aged 75, am I thinking right that he could have been born from September quarter 1869.

The info on the the death would be only on what the informent knew, so it might be right or it might not

If you need help finding the birth i don't mind helping

Hi Annabel

Do you have his M/C for his dads name, being as there were 2 it would be best to pick him up in the census first

If the informant on the death certificate had his age right, he would have been born anytime from 26th September 1869 to 25th September, 1870.

However I have loads of death certificates where the age is out by quite a few years - people just didn't keep track of birthdays in the same way in those days and it also depended on how good the informants memory was.

Getting his marriage certificate for his father's name is the best idea.

William New's wife was a Mary Potter 1890c no birth for her or census records

she died in 1958, can find no trace of a marriage for her and William New.

Have the birth certificates for their two youngest children born 1915 1923
there were three other children of William New ,

Thomas, and Hilda, who were supposed to be older than my late father in law

James, Richard Rowland Lawrence New
(three dates of birth for him 1908,1910,1911 ) have his marriage and death certificates

Of these three children there is not a trace of their births, have searched all way I know and employed professionals to look but alway come to a brick wall,

So seaching quarter by quarter found I William New's death.

cheers Annabel

Possibly Mary above's birth reference

Mary Potter Jun qtr 1891 Pewsey reg district vol 5a pg 151

Just a thought - is it possible that they didn't actually get married? That it was just thought they were?

Thank you kate, will look further at that family as its in the same area,

it looks like the the eldest children had a different mother, did he marry either of them.
