Stupid question time...

If I order a birth certificate from 1870, what information would I get about the person ?

You will get name, date of birth, place of birth, father's name and occupation (unless the child is illegitimate), mother's name and maiden name, name and address of informant.

Place of birth - usually an address.
Name and occupation of father (unless child is illegitimate)
Name and maiden name of mother.
Name of informant (quite often dad if married)
Date of registration.

Think that's it.

If you can name one or both of the parents and put this on the order form you will only be charged half of the amount if it isn't the correct one.

If you are ordering by post, fax or telephone the charge is £8-50, if you order online then it is only £7.
