Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help - I am trying to get a good look at the occupation of Richard Wills born 1841 in Marazion, Cornwall. Its on the 1861 census. He is living with his mother Catherine and brothers James and Josiah.
It would be a great help if anyone could see what it says for me.

By the way, that area has a brilliant online parish clerk - have a google for her - she traced a lot of early baptisms/marriages for me.

I think it's probably truer to say
''He's a cordwainer, name for a fancy-shoe maker.''

For anyone who's interested in such details, the word is derived from Cordova/Cordoba - whence came the best quality leather for shoes and boots. If you used that sort of leather in your work you wouldn't want to be confused with someone who made labourer's boots! ;-)
