The Island of Ireland is two separate countries.

If your relatives are from the North (Ulster) you MAY find some records on Ancestry, IGI.

If they are from the South (Eire) you will have a very hard job! You have to go to Dublin.

Hm They have been two separate countries only since 1922! Before that Ireland was Ireland North and South, one country!

You don't necessarily have to go to Dublin.

The LDS have microfilmed quite a lot of records, which can be viewed at their centres.

Parish Records pre 1864 Catholics and pre 1845 Protestants WILL need a trip to Ireland as very little on the IGI for Parish records. Only 2 of my ancestors on the iGI.

Not necessarily, Janet - the LDS have microfilmed lots of stuff that isn't on the IGI.

I was able to order the microfilm of pre-1864 Catholic births for Drogheda, Co. Louth, at my local LDS centre with no trouble.

You can check on the LDS catalogue to see if they have the parish you're interested in.
