i have been looking for any records of a gentleman called DORNING HAYES
i have found his birth

Have you tried searching with just surname and birthplace/year?

The forename seems a good candidate for mistranscription..........

Chris,

I was having a look at that 1881 family as it does look promising.

The only thing which is a bit strange is the order of the children as usually they are listed in age order and Darning (?) is clearly age 11 on image.

He has managed to list the three youngest children in ascending rather than descending order, probably didn't realise until too late and just carried on!......But it looks a good match to the one you found.
