Karen/David,

some tips for the future when looking for someone and not being able to find them.

Gradually REDUCE the information you are using to do the search.

Remove the town/city from birth place

Add to birth year +/- 5, then +/- 10

Remove christian name

Use christian name but remove surname

Use the wild card symbol * ............ reduce christian name to 3 or 4 letters then use *
eg, Lou* will raise Louisa, Louise, and the ever popular misspelling Lousia

reduce the surname to 3 or 4 letters and use *, will pick up mis-transcriptions.

Try using christian name of a child, birth year +/-5, county of birth, name of mother

Finally, if all else fails .............. try using gender, birth year +/- 5, birth county, and nothing else.

One last trick if the person was born or lived in a small place ...... just use the place name and search one by one!

These are all the little tricks that we use to find the people for you!

Hi David
Check out the freebmd site as Henry's & Beatrice's births are there & also their marriage.
Good for any future references after 1837

Gold stars for you all - thank you all for your help.
Pete you were spot on. Mum has Beatrice Letitia's birth certificate, and yes she was born at that address.
Karen, Henry was definately born in Cambridge because we have that certificate too so it wasn't that one.
Thank you all so much for your time today.
Best regards, Karen. XXX

Hi everyone - wonder whether I'm missing something or are my family not there.
I'm looking for Henry William Snelling and his wife Beatrice (nee Rance) both aged +/- 28. Also their daughter Beatrice Letitia aged +/- 5.
Henry was born 1875 Cambridge, but around the 1901 census time they would have been living in the Hammersmith/Fulham area. Sometimes this is London, others Middlesex.
I hope some elses eyes and patience are better than mine.
Thank you.
