Got your note.
Just to set the record aright - a later Times artcle said the victim was age 65 not 70 and this matches the Death Index in June qtr on 1959 which has Augustus C. Roberts age 65 Newport 8c 170.
Two men were found guilty - but they may be still alive and so I will not give their names.

There are other articles but I don't have time to type them out. The man who died was age 70. Beaten over the head with an Iron bar about 5 pm on 19th in a small rooom at the back of his shop. He was a batchelor
What in particular did you want to know?

I've rarely visited Newport but it may help that the Times of Saturday Feb 21 1959 had a little mention of it:
NEWSAGENTS MURDER
TWO TO BE CHARGED
Two men will be charged with the murder of Augustus Robert, Newsagent, of Dock Street, Newport, Monmouthshire, Mr F. H. Smeed, Chief Constable of Newport, said last night. They will appear before Newport magistrates to-day.

There may be more info in the Times but that will require more searching. Does your local library let you access the "Times On Line" like ours in Dursley?

Is anyone local to Newport in S Wales, and has lived there since the 1950s or 60s? Does anyone remember the murder of a newsagent by a group of teenage lads? Unfortunately I don't know when this happened, roughly would be the 1950s or 60s. I've spent ages googling, but can only come up with a much more recent newsagent murder, and it wasn't that one. The info is relevant to my tree, I really need the newsagents name, ideally. Thanks.
