Hi Joanna,

Yes if you order the birth certificate it should give both his father and mothers name and also date of parents marriage. Then you can work backwards.
Or ask Mhairi to look it up for you in Edinburgh!!

No Problem Joanna,

But Neither the birth or death will be on Scotlands People. You will just have to buy the certificate from the Scottish Gro or ask Mhairi if she can look it up for you in Edinburgh.

Iris

Thank you for the look up but pretty sure his birth was 1909 and been told not available on line.

Although I would be interested if anyone could find a marriage of a female Campbell with a Brodie

Betty

I am so so sorry I didnt realise what I put in my first request. A lesson in re checking what you written.

What I meant was that from his death in 1971 I have been given his date of birth as 19/02/1909, and was hoping to find out parents etc

Sorry and thank you very much for time and efforts

Hi Joanne

Scotland does work a little different to England & Wales. Normally I would use Ancestry for census info, but the last one published is 1901. BMD's are found on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ but this only covers
» Births 1855-1906
» Marriages 1855-1931
» Deaths 1855-1956
If this person married in Scotland before 1931, his marriage details should be on Scotlandspeople & will give both his parents name's including Mum's maiden name. If the marriage took place anywhere else then you would be better off getting a copy cert to find out his dad's name. You will then need a copy birth cert. These can be ordered via the GRO for Scotland & cost £13
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/hlpsrch/index.html

I have never had to order a cert from the GRO in Scotland so you will need to check what happens if the info that you supply is incorrect.

Betty

I am afraid I have no idea where he was born in Scotland, but I have his date of birth as 19/02/1909 hope this helps sorry it is not more.

He married on the Isle of Wight in 1938 to Lydia Hughes, again I believe she may of been Scottish but have no information on her unfortunately

Thanks

Hi all

I am assisting a work collegue with their family history, but her relatives are from Scotland and I have no experience with Scottish records.

I am looking for James Ernest Campbell Brodie born according to his death in 1971(correction) on 19/02/1909 -am wanting to get back to the cenuses

But not sure if this is possible. Am assuming at moment as Campbell is a middle name that this is possibly his Mother's maiden name, as this often happens.

Any advice or help appreciated

Thanks

Joanna
