Hi Mary

I cant help with searchable BMD's I'm afraid, but I wrote to New Jersey Archives a couple of years ago and as I was in the UK they did a free search for me and came up with details of a birth record.

I then had to download the request form from the internet and sent off for the certification (they dont send an actual certificate).

I can tell you it was costly as I had to pay in US dollars and send a money order and it took six months to receive the certification.

It might be worth your while if you know the state to have a look at their Vital Records on google. They should have more info on there:-)

Hope this helps

There is no FreeBMD for the US. Each state is like it's own country. Some states have a few records on Ancestry but the vast majority don't.

Your best bet is to Google birth, marriage or death records for the state you're interested in.

Hi Mary,

Unfortunately when I have contacted cemeteries, government departments etc in USA, the response has been pathetic, Zilch Zero.

The good people on GR have been great, without their help I would still be struggling to find my Canadian/USA family. Why not post your details, maybe you will be lucky :-)

All the best
