Most are mine are useless apart from 1 which has popped up over various months. Same contact name but a different HOT MATCH name. I have tried contacting this person on a number of occasions but he fails to reply, he now has over 6 relations which match mine DOB and where born all correct.
So when I do manage to get one they dont reply

I have a John Smith in my tree and almost went bananas with all the hot matches. I got around it by spelling his name as Ssmith. It stopped the useless hot matches instantly.

And yes, I'm getting duplicates too.

I was notified yesterday that I had Hot Matches.

That's how come I looked on there, and discovered all the duplicates ........ all marked as NEW.

Some I had already contacted and found there really was some reason to hold on to them, others I'd discarded.

I would expect that any competent computer whiz would not be producing all these problems!!

I also spent 45 mins deleting matches yesterday and about 30 of them were for 3 people in my tree, and none had any connection with my family
I also think that some people on this site just add names to their trees from other members trees because for one match there were 14 people all with the same set of ancestors.

The duplicates are happening to me aswell.

This happened a few weeks ago after they had changed everything but then appeared to have been sorted.

Obviously not!!

They have also stopped sending me an email to say the new hot matches are out.

I remove all the people with only one match without looking at them.

As I get several pages of hot matches I reckon only one match is sure to be a dud. If the other person gets me in his/her hot matches & contacts me that's fine. Rarely do I find that even 2 matches is worth contacting. Multiple matches are a much surer bet unless it is a really unusual surname.

Ozi.

Update: Great idea Jill.

I put my unkowns in my tree in square brackets. So if Thomas Mocock is married to Sarah Unknown she shows as Sarah [Mocock]. That way, I know who she is connected to and she doesn't hot match against a lot of unknowns.

Thanks to all for replying, I also delete the dont knows right away. When I say different places of Birth, I mean Scotland and Australia, America and Scotland or England and Scotland. There must be some way of doing it.

Ann,

Since there are various ways of giving a place of birth - some or all of the following: hamlet, village, nearby town, county, country - then it would be very difficult to insist on a precise correspondence since some genuine matches would not be picked up.

However, like you, I have no unknowns in my list since there is no way of checking them. Consequently I always delete immediately any unknowns in my hot matches as their owners either don't know or can't be bothered to record them properly.

I know how you feel I have 4 or 5 pages a time. As I have Smith and a few Kings in my tree it happens, but I have found some people that are related to me so it will help

Hi All,

I have just spent 45 mins looking at all my Hot Matches. Most of them were different places of birth, when is that going to be sorted? as it is a complete waste of time. I also had at least five that were all unknown except year of birth, my tree and the other persons. I do not have any Unknowns, and they were all the same date of birth.
I will keep looking though as I have had contact with distant rellies.
